Taste

Mediocrity is the greatest disease in our time. Too many people feel "comfortable" being "normal". Life has nothing to do with our comfort but rather our growth, growing transitions to eternal comfort.

Too many people accept being mediocre because they have never tasted greatness, have never been the best as something and realized that the anything but greatness is a failure. I am not just talking about your career. This extends into all aspects of life. Being the best husband and father, neighbor, and friend. Being the best at your hobbies. In your church activities.

I love the NIKE commmercial with Lebron James. "You don't want to be me.....You want to better". I don't expect to be perfect in this life, but I will never stop trying. The minute I stop trying, and am happy with where and what I am in life, I have been consumed by the plague....the plague of mediocrity.

Payback is certainly a ...........

For years my family has held a Christmas Eve party with a great family...the Bodily's. We have all gotten older, some of us have gone on missions, gotten married and had kids. Even with all of this change, we still manage to have a great and memorable time.

Each year we play the same two games! One is the candy bar game. It is very simple but proves just how much our bodies crave large amounts of sugar and preservatives. The next game is the highlight. We play a white elephant game. Last year in my pure ignorance I gave a autographed photo of myself. The lucky winner of this one day priceless gift was Kelly, this could have been very funny for her if she had been single. Unfortunately both her and her husband were nothing but dismayed.

Nothing was quite as climatic this year as my giving of the children's book "Everyone Poops" buy the Bodily father, Kevin, who insisted that the illustrated novel should be on display in his office waiting room. A close second was when my new bride of 3 months picked her gift and found nothing more than the most fought over present from last year.........my photo! As the gift was opened Wade exclaimed that he had stored that gift in the trunk of his car for a year to get rid of the gift. I normally would have been offended that the gift was treated with such carelessness, but am glad the gift finely found a much more appreciated home.
